Scoliosis is a spinal deformity affecting nearly 200 million people across the world. Affected patients experience abnormal curvature of the spine which can lead to chronic pain, difficulties with breathing, paralysis, and a shortened lifespan when left untreated.
In most cases, medical care can dramatically improve the standard of living of people living with scoliosis. Unfortunately, over 60 million people who have the disorder lack access to proper medical treatment. Many of these individuals are children whose lives could be massively improved through surgery.
Global Spine Outreach believes that no child should have to suffer from scoliosis or other severe spine deformities just because of where they live. We’re a nonprofit who provides free scoliosis treatment to children living in economically underserved regions of the world.
We create quality spine surgery centers staffed with leading board-certified surgeons and other medical volunteers. Since 2013 we’ve performed 172 surgeries completely free of charge to our young patients or their families.
Our medical mission trips are just the start. Our spine surgery experts also educate each region’s local medical professionals, giving them invaluable skills to use to help their home communities.
